SCOTTISH ELISES AT
MEXI TOWERS 2006

Just a quick note for thanks for a superb
weekend - I could get in to these road run things I think.
Big cheer to JohnS for sorting out Knockhill for us all,
Big cheer to IDW for leading the way on Friday night and Saturday
and the Biggest Cheer to the Tretmanis family for putting us up and putting up
with us.
Oh, and there was some whispering going on about a more centrally based
2007.............. ;-)

Thirded - posted this on SE
Car was fantastic all weekend. In love with
this engine - so tractable and flexible. With the heat, the Maxsports even
seem to work. The thing just inspired confidence all weekend.
Good selection of roads - unfortunate that we ended up doing too much hanging
about at stops, so we had to miss out the last section. Still, good fun.
BBQ at Uldis' was brilliant - as usual I got drunk and loud, so if I offended
anyone.... well tough
Seem to remember having a conversation with Lord Ed about the zen of track
driving, so my bullsh!t counter was off the scale!
Sunday, I awoke with a slightly iffy head, but not too bad, given my
propensity for satanic hangovers! Tut et al turned up around 9.30 and started
the planning for the run - it's been ages since I've had a run with Tut &
Scotty, so was looking forward
First group away was Scotty, Tut, Graham Walsh & myself. I made it as far as
just south of Banchory
No sillyness and no crash, but coming into a right hander at just under 90
tuts, by left rear toe link gave up!
For the not so technically minded, this means that the rear wheel was suddenly
doing it's best forklift impression and steering all by itself!!!
I have no idea why I'm not upside down in a field, but honestly the first
thing I though when the back just went was "f**k, toe link! - I may die..."
Feathered the brakes and thankfully the castor on the rear wheel has a
tendency to make it go straight(ish) when going forwards - so managed to get
the thing stopped...
2 minutes later, Tut screams back (probably thinking I was in a ditch) quickly
followed by Scotty & Graham. There was very little to do but phone the AA....
3 FACKING HOURS LATER they turn up.....
Now, stupidly, I got my membership free with the bank and have never bothered
to upgrade, so I can only be recovered 50 miles. This left me with an issue...
However - here's where the SE spirit comes in. Uldis had phoned me to say that
he has some old toe links at his, from when he upgraded. He says "get it
dropped at mine and we change them." So, off to Uldis' it was. We get the
undertray off, to find it split at the balljoint - just sheared off.
Unfortunately, it looks like Uldis has been tidying and flung out the toe
links...
Still - bright idea - he's on the phone to Tut. He's got some bits left from
his failures, so I might be able to scavenge what I need. Straight away, Uldis
gets his car running and say "okay, we go get them"
Tut lives 30 minutes north of Abz, so it's another hour out of Uldis' day...
We get there - he's just finishing up a BBQ and goes & gets the bits for us.
Different design (as they must have changed balljoint design when the S1 went
to steel rear uprights) Still - convinced I could get it to fit.
We get back to Uldis' (it's gone 8 at this stage) and they do fit. Bolt
straight on and we get the undertray on and I'm off! Got back in the house
just before 12 (as I stopped on the road for a Maccy D's)
Uldis - man's a legend! Thanks so much for the weekend and for all your help.

Awesome weekend. Thanks very much
to you and your family Uldis, most hospitable. Great Barbie, great weather,
great company and of course great roads.
Good to hear everyone made it home in one piece.

And thanks to
all of you guys!
It was a great
weekend, the best I’ve had so far and probably precisely because of all of you
guys.
Excellent
driving by all, excellent routes, excellent weather, excellent time at the BBQ,
and only a few eventualities (really sorry about Neill and Andy)
Mike’s close
encounter at Applecross at least didn’t stop him from continuing driving and
Shug must have arrived home by 11:00 pm after fixing the toe link. He missed the
second half of the drive on Sunday but at least he didn’t hit anything when the
toe link went.
But hey,
where’s the fun if it was centrally based! maybe even further away, like Iain’s
place? or, does anybody live in Thurso? ;)
Anyway, rest
assured that we’d be happy to host the next one as well
